My Local Art
So, I was just cleaning the floors of my house (my least favorite chore). I was looking around as I swept and swiffered. I realized I have a lot of art! Maybe one day I’ll write or do a photo gallery of all my art and gallery walls!
Would anyone even be interested in that?
But while looking around I realized two things 1. I have a lot of thrifted art and 2. I have a lot of local art. I want to start this blog with saying I’ve not asked for permission or partnered with anyone mentioned in this blog post, but I hope they don’t mind. I want to showcase my local art, and if you happen upon this blog post and want to buy any art from them maybe you will reach out!
I wanted to take a minute to highlight some local artist that I have pieces from! Whether they’d consider themselves artist or not that’s on them (this will make sense later), but I wanted to showcase some! Hope that’s okay y’all!
I’m starting with my good friend Sarah Fought, she is a local teacher who’d does some projects! I am lucky enough to have picked up these two during quarantine! Sunsets and I love them!
Next I want to show off my piece from Micah David Scott I bought this piece at the Iridian Gallery at Diversity Thrift. It’s so amazing - I love everything about this piece. I actually got to meet him and chat with him when I picked up this piece. It was my first piece of truly local art and the first art I’d paid real money for! It’s one of my favorites and I hope to pick up more pieces from him later on in time.
So this next artist may not call herself an artist (circle back to the first paragraph of this blog post), but it’s actually one of my best friend’s Liz! She made me this piece of the Call Me By Your Name poster as inspiration! She’s a genius and early in quarantine she made pieces for a bunch of our friends and I was super lucky to get this one!
Last, I want to highlight my two prints by Michael Birch Pierce I picked these up within the last year and they reside in my bathroom. I find them empowering - they are vulnerable and also embracing their natural selfs. These two pieces like I said are in my bathroom and they always give me a boost of confidence!
So in conclusion, this wasn’t a long blog post, but I am trying to get some practice back in while I have the time and resources to do it. I’ve not partnered with these artist, but I do hope that they don’t mind and also hope that if you find this post that you will maybe purchase some art. Local art is important, it’s the culture of that city or location, it’s the community you are steeped in, and it’s buying from an actual person! This is less about shopping local and more about supporting folxs who you may jive with!
I hope you like my art, and I hope you find some of your own. If you have local art, tag me in a post on your instagram! my instagram is: mr.csnell
